parks and recreation
Municipal fun division
Parks and recreation refers to public green spaces and the leisure activities they support—playgrounds, sports fields, trails, and community programs.
Most American cities have a parks and recreation department that maintains these spaces and organizes activities: The parks and recreation budget was cut again.
The phrase gained pop culture currency from the television comedy of the same name.
