overwrapping

Too much covering

Overwrapping is the process of adding an outer layer of packaging around a product or its primary container—typically a transparent film or paper that provides protection, tamper evidence, or a surface for labeling.

The term appears most often in manufacturing and retail contexts: The machine handles overwrapping for cigarette packs.

As a present participle, it can also describe something that wraps too much or extends beyond: The bandage was overwrapping the wound.
