oversharpening

Too much contrast

Oversharpening is excessive digital enhancement of image edges, producing unnatural halos, grainy textures, or a harsh, crunchy appearance.

The term comes from photo editing, where sharpening tools increase edge contrast to make images appear crisper—but too much creates obvious artifacts: The oversharpening made her skin look like sandpaper.

Sometimes used figuratively for anything refined past the point of improvement.
