overdiluting

Adding too much solvent

Overdiluting is diluting something too much, weakening it beyond usefulness or effectiveness.

The term applies to liquids—overdiluting the cleaning solution makes it useless—but extends to anything that can be watered down: overdiluting the brand through too many product lines, overdiluting the message with unnecessary caveats.
