overdate

Stamp newer year

To overdate is to assign a date later than the actual one, or to date something too far into the future.

The term appears in philately and numismatics, where an overdated stamp or coin shows a date altered from an earlier one—often visible as one year's digits struck over another's.

The 1942 overdate nickel shows traces of a 1 beneath the 2.
