overchallenging

Unreasonably difficult task

Overchallenging describes something that presents too much difficulty—a task, game, or situation that pushes beyond what someone can reasonably handle.

It's commonly used in educational and gaming contexts where difficulty calibration matters: The puzzle was overchallenging for younger players.

Unlike simply "challenging," which often carries positive connotations of growth, overchallenging implies the difficulty has crossed into counterproductive or frustrating territory.
