out-of-school suspension
Temporary school banishment
Out-of-school suspension is a disciplinary measure that temporarily bars a student from attending school.
Unlike in-school suspension, where students remain on campus in a supervised setting, out-of-school suspension sends them home for a set number of days.
The practice is controversial—critics argue it rewards misbehavior with free time and disproportionately affects minority students: He received a three-day out-of-school suspension for fighting.
