old as the hills
Dating from antiquity
Old as the hills describes something extremely old or ancient.
The phrase works through hyperbole—hills seem permanent fixtures of the landscape, so anything as old as they are must be very old indeed: That joke is old as the hills.
Often used dismissively to suggest something is outdated or stale.
