off-pitch
Not quite right
Off-pitch describes singing or playing that deviates from the correct musical pitch—sharp, flat, or wavering.
A singer who goes off-pitch hits wrong notes: Her voice went off-pitch on the high notes.
The term applies to instruments too: The guitar sounded off-pitch after sitting in the heat.
Figuratively, something off-pitch feels wrong or discordant: His joke landed off-pitch with the somber crowd.
