noteheads
Pitch markers, unfilled
Noteheads are the oval or round parts of written musical notes that sit on or between the lines of a staff.
Their shape and whether they're filled or hollow indicate duration—a hollow notehead for a half note, a filled one for a quarter note.
The noteheads were so small I could barely read the score.
