nonplaying
Watching from sidelines
Nonplaying describes someone connected to an activity who doesn't participate directly: a nonplaying captain leads the team but stays off the field, a nonplaying coach instructs but doesn't compete.
The term appears most often in sports contexts where roles are divided between participants and supervisors.
