nonnormative
Deviating from norms
Nonnormative describes something that departs from or exists outside established norms or standards.
In academic and social contexts, it often refers to identities, behaviors, or practices that don't conform to dominant cultural expectations: nonnormative sexualities, nonnormative family structures.
The term is neutral or affirmative rather than pejorative—it names difference without condemning it.
