nonmusician
Lacks instrumental training
A nonmusician is someone who doesn't play a musical instrument or lacks musical training.
The term usually appears in contexts contrasting trained musicians with ordinary listeners or amateur participants: The study compared how musicians and nonmusicians perceive rhythm.
It can also describe someone's self-assessment: I'm a nonmusician, but I know what I like.
