non-destructive
Doesn't cause damage
Non-destructive describes methods or processes that don't damage or permanently alter what they examine or affect.
Non-destructive testing inspects materials for flaws without harming them—X-rays, ultrasound, magnetic particle inspection.
In computing, non-destructive editing preserves the original file while allowing changes to be layered on top and reversed.
The hyphen is often dropped: nondestructive.
