new friend
Freshly made connection
A new friend is someone you've recently begun a friendship with, as opposed to longtime or childhood friends.
The phrase often carries a note of enthusiasm or cautious optimism about the developing relationship: I made a new friend at the conference.
It can also be used pointedly or sarcastically when someone suspects romantic involvement: So who's this "new friend" you've been spending so much time with?
