negative symptoms
What's missing psychiatrically
Negative symptoms are features of psychiatric illness—especially schizophrenia—defined by the absence of normal functions rather than the presence of abnormal ones.
Where positive symptoms add something (hallucinations, delusions), negative symptoms subtract: diminished emotional expression, social withdrawal, reduced speech, lack of motivation, inability to feel pleasure.
