national rankings
Nationwide competitive standings
National rankings are ordered lists that compare and rank entities—universities, sports teams, hospitals, cities—across a nation according to specific criteria.
The phrase appears constantly in discussions of college admissions, athletic programs, and institutional prestige: The school rose in the national rankings after hiring a new coach.
Rankings carry weight in recruiting, funding, and reputation, though their methodologies are often disputed.
