A nasty gram is a hostile written message—an angry email, memo, or letter expressing complaint or criticism.
The term originated in military and corporate settings for official reprimands but now applies to any sharp-toned written communication: HR sent him a nasty gram about his attendance.
Sometimes spelled as one word: nastygram.
