mutual interests
Common ground, basically
Mutual interests are concerns, activities, or goals shared by two or more parties.
The phrase appears in diplomatic contexts where nations find areas of mutual interest for cooperation, and in personal relationships where shared hobbies or values create connection: We bonded over our mutual interest in jazz.
The phrase can also euphemistically describe arrangements where both sides benefit, sometimes implying self-serving motives dressed up as common ground.
