muscle fibres
Tissue's contractile units
Muscle fibres are the long, thin cells that make up muscle tissue.
Each fibre contains proteins that slide past one another to produce contraction.
Skeletal muscle fibres are classified by speed and endurance—fast-twitch fibres generate quick, powerful movements while slow-twitch fibres sustain prolonged activity.
