mor humus
Acidic leaf litter
Mor humus is a type of forest floor organic matter that forms a distinct layer separate from the mineral soil beneath it.
Unlike mull humus, which blends smoothly into soil, mor humus sits atop it as a dense, acidic mat of partially decomposed plant material—common under coniferous forests where cold temperatures and acidic conditions slow decomposition.
The thick mor humus layer made it difficult to reach mineral soil.
