monkeywrenching

Eco-activist equipment destruction

Monkeywrenching is sabotage of equipment or infrastructure, especially in environmental activism—disabling logging machinery, spiking trees, or damaging construction equipment to obstruct development.

The term comes from Edward Abbey's 1975 novel *The Monkey Wrench Gang*, about eco-saboteurs in the American Southwest.

The FBI investigated the monkeywrenching incidents at the pipeline site.
