mock execution
Fake death performance
A mock execution is a form of psychological torture in which a person is made to believe they are about to be killed—led to a firing squad, placed under a noose, or given a lethal injection—only for the execution to be called off or revealed as fake.
The practice inflicts severe trauma without physical violence: Prisoners reported repeated mock executions during their captivity.
Mock executions are prohibited under international law as cruel treatment.
