Misexplaining is explaining something incorrectly or in a misleading way.
The error may be unintentional—from misunderstanding the subject—or deliberate, as when someone oversimplifies to avoid difficult questions: He kept misexplaining the policy until people stopped asking about it.
The word suggests the explanation itself is flawed, not just incomplete.
