military humor
Armed forces comedy
Military humor is comedy that emerges from armed forces culture—dark jokes about death, absurdist responses to bureaucratic dysfunction, and mockery of rank hierarchies.
It tends toward gallows humor, finding levity in danger and discomfort: We're not retreating, we're advancing in a different direction.
Much military humor is untranslatable to civilian life, relying on shared experience of tedium, fear, and institutional absurdity.
The irreverence serves as a coping mechanism and bonding ritual.
