media archives
Historical content collections
Media archives are organized collections of recorded content—film, video, audio, photographs, or digital files—preserved for future access.
News organizations maintain archives of past broadcasts; libraries hold archives of historical recordings.
The term covers both the physical or digital repository and the materials themselves: The documentary drew heavily from BBC media archives.
Unlike personal collections, media archives typically involve systematic cataloging and preservation standards.
