masked wrestler
Concealed identity fighter
A masked wrestler is a professional wrestler who performs wearing a mask that conceals their identity.
The tradition is central to lucha libre, Mexican wrestling, where masks carry deep cultural significance—losing one's mask in a match is a profound humiliation.
Some wrestlers maintain their masked persona for entire careers, never revealing their faces publicly: The masked wrestler defended his title for fifteen years without anyone knowing his true identity.
