marriage banns
Church wedding notice
Marriage banns are a public announcement in church of an intended wedding, traditionally read aloud on three consecutive Sundays before the ceremony.
The practice gives community members the opportunity to raise objections—such as an existing marriage or close blood relation—that would make the union invalid.
The banns were read without objection.
Though less common now, some religious traditions still require them.
