manned spaceflight
Astronauts beyond atmosphere
Manned spaceflight is space travel with human crew aboard the spacecraft, as opposed to unmanned or robotic missions.
The term dominated from the 1960s Space Race through the shuttle era: the first manned spaceflight, manned missions to the Moon.
Now often replaced by "crewed spaceflight" to avoid gendered language, though manned remains common in historical contexts.
