luteinizing
Ovulation-triggering hormone type
Luteinizing describes a hormone or process that triggers the release of eggs from the ovary or stimulates hormone production in the reproductive system.
Luteinizing hormone (LH) surges mid-cycle to cause ovulation in women and regulates testosterone in men.
The term comes from *corpus luteum*, the structure that forms in the ovary after an egg is released.
