lotus-eating

Pleasurable forgetful laziness

Lotus-eating is indulging in pleasurable idleness, forgetting responsibilities and the outside world.

The term comes from Homer's Odyssey, where Odysseus's men eat lotus fruit and lose all desire to return home.

A lotus-eater is someone devoted to pleasure and leisure at the expense of practical concerns: We spent a lotus-eating week on the island, ignoring our phones entirely.
