long divisions
Manual multi-digit arithmetic
Long division is the standard method for dividing large numbers by hand, working digit by digit from left to right through a series of steps: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down the next digit, repeat.
The process is taught in elementary school and produces both quotient and remainder.
The plural refers to multiple instances or problems: I spent the evening helping my son with his long divisions.
