lockhouse
Canal lock residence
A lockhouse is a building located at a canal lock, traditionally serving as the residence for the lock keeper who operates the lock gates and manages boat traffic.
These structures are common along historic canal systems: The old lockhouse has been converted into a museum.
Some lockhouses now function as rental properties or historical landmarks rather than working residences.
