livery company
London craft association
A livery company is one of the historic trade guilds of the City of London, originally formed to regulate crafts and professions—goldsmiths, mercers, fishmongers.
The name comes from the distinctive clothing (livery) worn by guild members.
Today the companies are largely ceremonial, involved in charity and maintaining traditions, though some still oversee their original trades: He was admitted to the Worshipful Company of Vintners.
