live taping
Audience-present filming session
A live taping is a recording of a television show, podcast, or other performance made in front of an audience as it happens, rather than in an empty studio.
The "live" refers to the audience's presence during filming, not necessarily to live broadcast: We got tickets to a live taping of the late-night show.
The format captures authentic audience reactions—laughter, applause, energy—that studio recordings lack.
