little folk

Tiny magical beings

Little folk refers to fairies, elves, gnomes, and similar mythical small creatures of folklore.

The term carries a tone of rustic belief or gentle affection, as if speaking of real neighbors one shouldn't offend: Leave milk out for the little folk.

Sometimes used interchangeably with little people, though that phrase now more commonly refers to humans with dwarfism.
