liftboys

They push buttons

Liftboys are attendants who operate elevators in buildings, announcing floors and controlling the car.

The term is chiefly British, where elevators are called lifts.

The occupation was once common in hotels, department stores, and office buildings but has largely disappeared with automated elevators: The liftboys at Harrods wore matching uniforms.
