library records

Borrowed book documentation

Library records are the documentation a library maintains about its patrons and their activities—borrowed materials, search histories, account information.

The term often appears in discussions of privacy and intellectual freedom, as libraries traditionally resist requests to disclose what patrons have read: Law enforcement sought the library records of several suspects.

Also refers to the catalog entries for a library's holdings.
