legendary hero

A legendary hero is a figure celebrated in myth, folklore, or cultural memory for extraordinary deeds—Hercules, King Arthur, Beowulf.

The term applies both to characters from ancient tradition and to real people whose accomplishments have been elevated to near-mythic status: He became a legendary hero of the resistance movement.

In gaming and fantasy contexts, it often designates a character class or achievement tier.
