leafmold

Decayed leaf matter

Leafmold is decomposed leaves used as a soil amendment or mulch.

It forms naturally on forest floors as fallen leaves break down over time, creating a dark, crumbly material that improves soil structure and retains moisture: I added leafmold to the garden beds.

Also spelled leaf mold or leaf mould.
