laywoman
She's no expert
A laywoman is a woman who is not a member of the clergy, or more broadly, someone without professional expertise in a particular field.
The term parallels layman but specifies female gender: As a laywoman, she found the legal jargon confusing.
In religious contexts, laywomen are members of a congregation who aren't ordained.
The gender-neutral layperson increasingly replaces both terms.
