working stiffs
Regular wage earners
Working stiffs are ordinary people who work for a living, typically at unglamorous jobs for modest wages.
The phrase carries a blue-collar connotation and suggests someone who puts in honest labor without much recognition or reward.
It's often used with wry solidarity or self-deprecating humor: We working stiffs don't get three-hour lunches.
The term positions everyday workers against the wealthy or privileged classes.
