kiss of Judas
Friendly-seeming backstab gesture
A kiss of Judas is an act of betrayal disguised as affection or friendship.
The phrase comes from the biblical account of Judas Iscariot identifying Jesus to Roman soldiers with a kiss, leading to his arrest and crucifixion.
Any gesture of apparent goodwill that masks treachery may be called a kiss of Judas: His warm handshake turned out to be a kiss of Judas.
