justiciability

Fit for adjudication

Justiciability is whether a legal dispute is suitable for a court to decide.

Courts refuse to hear cases that lack justiciability—matters too abstract, too political, or where the plaintiff has no standing to sue.

A case may be dismissed as nonjusticiable if it asks the court to rule on something beyond judicial authority: The court questioned the justiciability of challenges to the electoral count.
