jump-cut
Jarring film transition
A jump-cut is a film editing technique where two sequential shots of the same subject are taken from slightly different positions, creating an abrupt, jarring transition.
The effect draws attention to the edit rather than hiding it: The interview used jump-cuts to compress a long answer.
Jump-cuts can suggest time passing, create energy, or convey psychological unease.
As a verb, to jump-cut is to edit this way.
