judicial reviews
Legal constitutionality checks
Judicial review is the power of courts to examine laws, government actions, or official decisions to determine whether they comply with constitutional or legal principles.
In the United States, judicial review allows federal courts to strike down legislation that violates the Constitution.
In the United Kingdom, it refers more narrowly to courts reviewing whether public bodies have acted within their legal authority.
The Supreme Court's judicial review of the statute found it unconstitutional.
