joint committee
Cross-chamber legislative group
A joint committee is a committee composed of members from two or more groups that would otherwise act separately.
In legislatures, joint committees draw members from both chambers—in the U.S., from the House and Senate: The joint committee on taxation includes five senators and five representatives.
The term applies similarly to committees bridging different organizations or departments.
