jade rabbit
Lunar folklore creature
The jade rabbit is a figure from Chinese and other East Asian mythologies—a rabbit said to live on the moon, visible in the lunar surface's dark patches.
In Chinese tradition, the rabbit pounds ingredients for the elixir of immortality; in Japanese and Korean versions, it makes rice cakes.
China's lunar rovers bear this name: The Jade Rabbit landed on the moon in 2013.
