intrauterine devices
Implanted birth control
An intrauterine device, or IUD, is a small contraceptive inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.
IUDs work by releasing hormones or copper that interfere with fertilization.
They provide long-term birth control—effective for years—and are among the most reliable reversible contraceptive methods: She got an IUD after her second child.
