insurgent movements
Organized resistance campaigns
Insurgent movements are organized efforts by groups within a country to overthrow or fundamentally change the existing government or social order, typically through armed resistance or guerrilla warfare.
The term implies rebellion against established authority from within rather than invasion from outside: The insurgent movement gained strength in the rural provinces.
Such movements may be motivated by ideology, ethnicity, religion, or regional grievances.
The label carries political weight—one side's insurgent movement is another's liberation struggle.
